چکیده

In this work, the effect of compressive surface stress on thin film membrane fracture was studied by bulge test. order to create membranes with residual at surface, low-pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) Si3N4 were coated a 1−8 nm SiNx adlayer or subjected Ar-ion bombardment. Fracture strength analysis, done using finite element method and Weibull distribution, microscope inspection failed showed that pressure limit is determined intrinsic mode, caused high induced edge near top surface. By creating maximum applied reduced increased from 17.3 GPa 18.3 GPa. As result, 50 % increase in limit, 5 kPa/nm 7.5 kPa/nm.

Hierarchical folding of elastic membranes under biaxial compressive stress.

Mechanical instabilities that cause periodic wrinkling during compression of layered materials find applications in stretchable electronics and microfabrication, but can also limit an application's performance owing to delamination or cracking under loading and surface inhomogeneities during swelling. In particular, because of curvature localization, finite deformations can cause wrinkles to ev...

Ultrathin cross-linked nanoparticle membranes.

The fabrication of functional nanostructured materials for sensing, encapsulation and delivery requires practical approaches to self-assembly on multiple length scales and the synthesis of tough yet permeable structures. Here, the self-assembly of functionalized, photoluminescent nanoparticles at liquid interfaces, followed by cross-linking of the associated ligands, affords robust membranes th...

Cavity optomechanics with Si3N4 membranes at cryogenic temperatures

We describe a cryogenic cavity-optomechanical system that combines Si3N4 membranes with a mechanically rigid Fabry–Perot cavity. The extremely high products of quality factor and frequency of the membranes allow us to cool a MHz mechanical mode to a phonon occupation of n̄ < 10, starting at a bath temperature of 5K. We show that even at cold temperatures thermally occupied mechanical modes of th...

Ultrathin silicon membranes for wearable dialysis.

The development of wearable or implantable technologies that replace center-based hemodialysis (HD) hold promise to improve outcomes and quality of life for patients with ESRD. A prerequisite for these technologies is the development of highly efficient membranes that can achieve high toxin clearance in small-device formats. Here we examine the application of the porous nanocrystalline silicon ...
